Hi, I wonder if anyone knows of a hotel or lodge anywhere in the world that seriously claims to be eco certified, or at least has a strong environmental policy that also offers good sportfishing? It could be any kind of fishery (of course with some kind of conservation in mind, not longliners obviously), for any species.
Crocodile Bay, Costa Rica, has "eco" all over their web page, but I find nothing but "ecotours" like hiking, surfing and ziplines. Having these activities does not mean that for example transports and food is being dealt with in an environmentalist way. Anyone have an opinion about this place and their environmental policy?

You could stay at any of the eco resorts in the Matapalo, Puerto Jimenez or Osa Peninsula region of the Corcovado National Forest on the southern pacific coast of Costa Rica and book fishing with Mike Hennessy http://www.cabo-matapalo.com/ or Mike Packard http://www.marhuron.com/.
The eco resorts in the region are:

Thanks guys!
Seth, (or anyone) If I stay at El remanso on the Osa Peninsula, who should I fish with to keep transports and administration to a minimum? Mike Hennesy seems to be the closest operator. When is the best time for billfish in this area?

Mike Hennesy is a very good captain and know the waters quite well. He and Mike Packard are easily accessible. Puerto Jimenez is about a 45 minute drive from where you will be. Hennessy keeps his boat in PJ, so you will have to make the drive anyway. I have fished with Mike Packard several times and highly recommend him. Hennessy's boat is larger and nicer, however. These two guys are probably the best two captains in the area. The best time for marlin is Dec-Mar and for sails Jan-Apr in my experience. I have fished this area several times and have had great success with marlin and sails.

Again, thanks!
Has anyone stayed at El Remanso? Is it any good? Do they have a sustainable eco-profile? It looks like it on their website, but again, sometimes the eco-theme is just a commercial trick...

I really cannot say for sure, but many of the "eco resorts" in the area are authentic. For the most part, due to absolute necessity they have to follow an eco path.
Try this for a different flavour.

Here are some other eco-resorts that can accomodate sport fishing.
