The weather has been great with some nice SE trades and just a few showers now and then. Summer is in full swing. The flats are really starting to produce some exceptional bonefish and trevally. Baitfish are coming into the lagoon from on the reef and swimming across the flats with some great fish following close behind. There are both bonefish and trevally following. It only takes a cast into these baitballs with a short strip and you have a fish on. Also the channels are holding plenty of trevally right now to keep your interest. As for fishing pressure, there is none. Right now and for the next couple weeks I am the only rod on the lagoon. It truly is a paradise.

With the winds settling down into our normal SE trades and the sun heating things up all is well down here on Aitutaki. The fishing has been exceptional the last couple of weeks. We are sighting quite a few large bonefish, 30+ inches, with somedays having multiple hookups. The main channel last week was holding a large school of bonefish with some measuring well over 36 inches. A few of the locals went out and speared a few of the monsters. A couple had to be world record bonefish. The trevally have been plentiful and good sport on the flats and off the reef. Right now the exchange rate is $.54US to $1NZ. So the exchange rate is great and makes a trip here that much more economical. The flight are still long but well worth it. With the runway out of commission on Xmas Island we have seen an uptake of NZ and Aussie anglers. Most days I am still the only fly rod on the Aitutaki lagoon.
