Default Insane Marlin action in Manta, Ecuador.

Yes it´s true………The title of this report may sound a bit over the line or people may think that these are the same numbers we have seen in Ecuador at this time of the year. Well,…..not quite.

Ever since the time of the legendary and best fishing days we had in Salinas and Manta for many seasons, we have never seen such an Invasion of Blacks and Blues for quite some time.

With water temperatures at 78F and a north current, these past couple of days have been a real ¨Marlin Extravaganza¨. 5 boats out during 4 days. Totalized more that 100 Black and Blue Marlin strikes. Total release amounted for 32. One of the boats even lost 9 on a single day. The important fact again, is that much like last week´s report, these Marlin are Blues, we don´t see the smaller Stripes which are also present here in large numbers around this time of the year. In addition to this, one boat was lucky enough to land a Giant 340 pound Big-Eye tuna. Last year´s national record was 390 pounds, but it was still an enormous fish. Capt. Sergio Bazan of the Bertram 31 was certainly tired on Sunday night after recording 18 Blue Marlin strikes and 6 releases after 4 days of non-stop action. ¨We were aware that Marlins came to Manta during the equatorial summer, but we could have never expected this situation. I´ve been fishing these waters for more than 20 years and this is, by far, the best marlin activity I´ve seen in years¨ he said.

We are expecting these results to continue for the remaining of the season which should go on until October. After that, we start the Salinas season, in which we expect to see the large Blues and its beautiful Salinas Yacht Club.

Saw your report - nice of the longliners to leave your boats alone. And, they aren't all black marlin.

Hi. We don´t see longliners here or anywhere near us. It´s just Sport Fishing as it should be. And these Marlin are certainly making it fun for us here.

If their are no longliners around, why are all the dead billfish on the beach in manta every morning, being loaded into trucks to go to market. Maybe just maybe camoflage netting so satelites cannot see it. I do not doubt they had a bite but watch what happens now-nada, zip, zero. Capt. Starr who fishes there regularly caught a few bigeyes ourselves over 300 but why blow your own horn. Old nantucket fisherman said "self praise is no praise at all", the reply will be the fish were caught somwhere else by the longliners, well they have to swim from north to south and vice versa. If you want I'll have Capt. Starr email pics of all the dead marlins and sails on the beach in Manta.

Capt. Starr is a friend of us and he can tell you about what we do.We, as BLUEMARLIN LODGE Ecuador NEVER KILL MARLINS. It is impossible to stop the longliners wherever they may work, just as it happens in Capetown, Central America, USA and other places in the world. What we can do is work with the local community and authorities to educate them as much as we can in order to avoid Marlins being killed. We have been working for several years and hundreds of customers and fellow anglers can testify to what Ecuador offers for Big Game Fishing. I´d be happy to give you some of their names and contact info. If you have any doubts you are welcomed to visit us and see it for yourself.
The good thing is that the conditions are as good as they have always been and we are having a lot of fun with the dozens of Blues and Blacks that we release every time we go out there.

If you have any questions, you can call me directly at my number 593-99460907, and I´ll be happy to show you what BLUEMARLIN does for the angling community in Ecuador. My email is legomez@bluemarlinmanta.com .
