    Default inshore cabo san lucas???

leaving in one week for cabo san lucas, already have two days with pisces for offshore action on one of the big boats with our party of six, would like to fish a smaller boat inshore a couple of days with my spin and fly outfits. do i go to san jose for inshore action?? i'm sorry guys, trolling is boring and i want to cast artificials for my fish. thanks in advance for any input.

    p.s. is a 15 lb spinning rig and a 10wt appropriate??

    Default Sure; pangas.

Very light offshore bite right now for billfish; although a lot of dorado around. About 25% of the boats are catching stripies now. Sails are in for offshore trolling also. For inshore just go down to Docks and get you a panga for the day and tell them you want toro (crevalle), gallo (roosterfish) and they'll take you to fish the surf. You should have chances for roosters, crevalle, needlefish, yellowtails, and amberjack casting or trolling near shore or in the breakers. You won't have to go over to SJD; they are actually under the bait boats just outside the marina at sunrise and you can catch them without leaving the port. I would not use less than 20# mono and I'd use appropriate leader for crevalle. Good luck.
    Cheers, Doc

    Hi,
Gear for inshore is normally on a panga. You might want to take one or two rods (20# class spinning/medium weight flyrod) and a variety of lures, jigs, chrome spoons suitable for any nearshore fishery. If it catches spanish mackeral, bluefish, jack crevalle, etc. it will work there. The fish will go from a couple up to 10 pounds on average with an outside chance of fish up to 20 or 30 pounds. A rooster bigger than that would be infrequent in Cabo. Take tackle that is suitable. Also realize the costs involved for any oversized luggage. I have a custom 50# class, solid glass rod with an Aftco unibutt that fits in my roller bag and use a Penn 9500 (60# Spectra) for all purpose fishing except for casting. An oversized rod case can cost you dearly, whereas the same rods put in an aluminum gun case meet the measurement requirements for airlines. Roosters can be caught by casting into the surf. But again, the nearshore fish are right under the bait boats in port. Have fun.

thanks doc, i've got it pared down to 2 fly and 2 spin for inshore and anything else will have to be already on board. if i only take 2 changes of clothes i will have enough room for lures, reels and cameras.
