I went out with some new friends today to do some jigging. Justin, Ryan and his neighbor. They haven't done much jigging but they caught on right away. We stopped in 30 feet and caught a bunch of short red grouper, seabass and a flounder. All the fish were caught on buck tail jiggs. We went out deeper to 65 feet to try for amberjacks and grouper. On Ryan's first drop with the vertical jigg he nailed a big jack crevalle (not what we were looking for but still a great fight). Then on my first drop I got a big crevalle. I'm glad things didn't keep going that way because they're fun but who wants to sit around and catch crevalle all day? On my next drop I caught a nice amber jack and then Justin pulled in another amber jack right behind me. Before long, every one was hooked up with something. Once we limited out on amber jack we focused on the bottom and caught a ton of red grouper. We were having double, triple, and quadruple hook up with the red grouper. We had our limit on Reds just in time to see a school of 6-8 cobia swim up to the boat. I have never seen so many jiggs hit the water at once. Justin ended up catching the biggest fish of the day which was a gigantic 5+ foot cobia. I had another big one break off. Ryan probably caught the most fish. He was pulling up grouper all day with the buck tails. It was a great day. We caught a bunch of fish and had a blast with the jiggs.
