Redfish and snook are extremely active on the flats of eastern Tampa Bay and Northern Sarasota Bay. Fish can be easily sight casted as they sun themselves on the lighter sand pockets with a variety of baits. DOA weedless jerkbaits (Gold Rush), flies (TK Special and Lantham's Crab), and live shrimp will easily score on both species. On Sunday, 3/8/08, Bruce Traugott of Sarasota joined me on a half day trip to the Ruskin area for some light spin action. He caught redfish that scaled up to 7 pounds and a snook that measured over 25 inches (broke off at the boat after chewing through 25# leader). All fish were sight casted and several more were seen laid up and tailing on the rising morning tide.
