We went out to a couple of our grouper #s to see if we could find the grouper in large numbers since they move around so much during this month. We started jigging at one of my favorite springtime grouper spots and the grouper were there but so were the AJs. We played with them for a little while since they were pretty hefty fish with several over 40 pounds. We made a move to another spot to drift good bottom and same thing; we caught grouper until the AJs moved in and took over (I can't wait till kings and cobia are back, I'm so tired of catching AJs). We made one last move to try to escape the AJs and catch some grouper without the AJs wearing us out. At the last spot we tried we only caught short grouper and grunts on the jigs. All the spots we fished today were between 50 and 70 feet. We found where some very nice sized grouper are holding up. It looks like I'll have a pretty good idea where to find the grouper on opening day.
