Gator trout are blasting topwater plugs with wreckless abandon on the flats of Northern Sarasota Bay. Mirr-O-Lure's Mirro-Mullet, She Pup, and She Dog are the plugs that are getting the paint beaten off of them. On days with some chop on the water, chrome sided She Pups and She Dogs are the go to. On calm days, the new Mirro-Mullet doing the trick. Color doesn't matter much, but I like chartreuse. On Sunday (4/26/09) Paul Hawks and Bernie Noel, of Lakeland, joined me on a trip they purchased at the 2009 Polk-CCA banquet a few weeks ago. We fished the morning incoming tide and had many shots with topwater plugs. The trout that were found on the flats were between 18-24 inches. Redfish and snook are also chasing down topwater plugs as well.
