My favorite activity is going on down in Sarasota Bay.......TARPON ON FLY!!!! You can tussle with the big ones off of the beaches OR you can venture my own personal "Location X" and battle some hard fighting juveniles on light tackle and fly. Fly angler, Tom Lucke of Winter Haven, joined on Tuesday, 6/16 for a day of light tackle angling. We found some juvenile tarpon up to 20 pounds that were willing to take an Enrico Puglisi Pinfish pattern. They also were hitting small foam head gurglers and sliders. 8 and 9 weight rods are the ticket and 12# fluorocarbon tippets with a 30# shock tippet. Stealth and patience is the biggest key to getting a stretch from these high flying tarpon babes. On spin tackle, they will also take a 4" DOA CAL weedless jerkbait in Golden Bream (#416) and Gold Rush (#415). They will be there until October.
