Mike set up a middle grounds trip with Me, Steve, Brian and 2 of his buddys. We got to the grounds about an hour before dark and started jigging. We hooked up on AJs as soon as we put the jigs in the water. We also caught several keeper Red Grouper and 5-6 scamps on the vertical jigs with only one of the scamps being a keeper. Small dolphin surrounded our boat at every stop on both days but all the dolphin were very small. The moon did not start coming up 'till around midnight. The snapper bite was steady with mangroves, vermilions, and lanes but the red snapper seemed to be hard to find. At night our bait was live pins, porgies, pigfish, and frozen threadfins. The frozen bait worked by far the best. That may have been because of the lack of moonlight. In the morning we started jigging again and finished off our limit of red grouper and caught more AJs to make sure we went home completely exhausted. It was nice making the 100 mile run on flat seas in a 35 foot boat with trip 300s that was cruising between 50-60 mph. It made the 4 hour trip take less than 2 hours.
