Sam called me up and said he wanted to catch some kingfish and cobia for his birthday and asked if that would be possible. I told him no problem on the kings as long as he didn't mind trolling and the cobia would be a 50/50 chance. Cobia is a hard fish to guarantee. As luck would have it, at our 1st stop in 25 feet we put 4 Cobia in the boat and lost a few to silly mistakes. After the cobia fishing slowed we started looking for birds and bait to start trolling. We found both and ended up with our limit of kings 3 times over. The kings were not real big, most were between 25-35 inches. After the guys had their fill of kings, spanish macs, bonito, jacks, and barracudas on the trolling lures I talked them into going out deeper to 50 feet to try for some grouper. We caught 5 keeper reds and threw back a ton of shorts. Sam got bored with the bottom fishing and asked if we could go back in and try to find some more cobia. The birthday boy got his wish. We pulled up to another spot and right off the bat the cobia were on us again. We started pulling them in on bean jigs and thread fins. We were able to land 4 more for a total of 8 in the boat. Happy birthday Sam.
Triple header on cobia
Just what we were looking for!!!
