The government of the Bahamas has announced that as of Sept. 1st all harvesting, possession, purchase and sale of sea turtles will be prohibited.
Turtles found in Bahamian waters will be given full protection which will also prohibit the molestation of turtle nests and harvesting of eggs.
Many of us have been agitating for this law for some years now

Thank goodness for this. I am amazed at how slow some are to come around to the idea of protecting turtles. Here in Costa Rica there is a ban on turtle harvesting and their eggs, but I go to a market every Saturday where locals openly sell turtle eggs by the hundreds. It is sick, to say the least. The problem here, and one the Bahamians will likely face, is a total lack of enforcement due to a massive shortage of manpower.
