hit the spot for the negative low tide and was on the trout right away, nice 18"-19" schoolers. it was everycast once i found out where they were holding-deep end of the flat in 5' deep patchy grass.
dropped the floro leader down to 12lb due to the crystal clear water. got bored with the schoolie trout and went looking for something bigger. headed up to an area that has a drop off surrounded by nice grassy bottom and pot holes.
first cast and i get CRUSHED!!!! i knew right away it was a nice little gag. landed him and threw it back to the spot and BOOM another gag. i realized i had stumbled back onto the hole that held the big gag i landed last winter. i looked for it forever last yr and never found it again after that one keeper gag. made up for it today.....
locked down the drag as hard as i could for 8lb test and went to work on them....17 cast in a row i pulled 15-18" gags off the spot. it was a blast on the trout rod. then i got busted hard and broke off. hmm, could it be.....
rerigged and next cast i get freight trained by a quality flats gag, easy over the 20" mark on my rod without the tail pinch-a solid keeper. next cast whack another beast is on and i get another keeper 22"-23"class gag. unreal.
i guess the bigger ones were laying back. next cast i get broke off again and that put an end to the madness. the crazy thing was they all hit back to back like that, nothing was getting by them.
off to try for some reds and i found a little guy, 3 small flounder and more trout. was an odd day on the flats for sure.
all fish were caught on jigs-
pics do these fish no justice....
Is this the same trip you posted on FS or is this another magnificent outing?
Either way congrats on the catch
Nice fish and pics.
