Decided to see if we could catch the back end of our sailfish season on Sunday. The plan was to drag the lures around to see if we could pick up a few wahoo early and set out the sailfish spread once we found some water we wanted to fish. We put the lures out just past the weather buoy and caught a decent fish in 160' that ended up going 53#. Not long after we started seeing some floppers so we broke out the spinning tackle and dink baits. For the rest of the day we had pretty steady fishing. We had multiple fish up in the spread a number of times but we only had two people in the cockpit so we missed a few fish that we should have caught. Even so we ended up 9 for about 20. We fished within sight of the Double Trouble all day. He ended up 10 for 15. Overall we had a fun day. Maybe this mild weather will keep the fish up this way a little longer this year and we will get a few more shots a good numbers before we have to put up the sailfishing gear until next fall.
The sails were caught within a mile of the ledge just north of the inlet.
Lets see if we can start getting the fishing reports sections going. This is a fishing forum after all.

Good report. I'm with ya Fishin Blue. I used to post over at the other place, but I haven't in a while. Gonna ttry next week if weather permits. Prolly hit the ledge for some sails early and work the bottom on the way in
Just wait until after hunting season and the reports should start picking up here, atleast from me they will.I'm pretty much done with the other place.
Great report. I guess everybody is bailing on the other site. Hope reports start popping up somewhere.
Nice goin on the sails Bri...Please edumicate me as to the term "floppers"...I'm but a wee lil inshore dude and do not know of this reference you speak of...
And I totally agree with this place startin ta pick up reports-wise. I just found this NE section...I'll do my best covering the "inside"...![]()
Thanks for the replies, guys. I think we will should be able to get this reports section up and running. I know a lot of guys from FS who are no longer posting over there, although it is as much due to the abundance of idiots as it is the shortcomings of the forum. I think I can get them to post over here. If I can, this place will be the best source of up-to-date offshore information on the net. Frank is going to have to work his guys to get the inshore reports up to speed.
As for "floppers" that would be a reference to free jumping sailfish. They look like really big mullet in the open ocean just, well, flopping around. Just so that I can get Frank totally up to speed on the sailfishing vernacular, you also have "tailers" and "cutters". The "tailers" are fish swimming down the face of waves with their tail out of the water, thus the phrase "tailing down sea". "Cutters" are fish on the surface with either their dorsal or tail out of the water moving erratically, or cutting, usually a sign of feeding fish. Finally you have fish balling bait, or pushing a bait school into a tight ball that they can then feed on. It stands to reason that these fish would be called "ballers" but, much to my chagrin, this is not the case. I wish they were called "ballers", as this brings the mental picture of seeing Alan Iverson doggy paddling out in the open ocean, which, I have to admit, brings a smile to my face.

I'll do my best to spread the word Brian...Heck, I'm just happy the emoticons work on this forum...and you know how important they are to me...
Appreciate the sailfish 101 class sir...It's gotta be pretty awesome to sight fish these guys on light tackle spinning gear. I imagine they go nuts after hookset...

You prolly remember that we got this little one last year off our flats boat about 12 miles out of the St. Auggy inlet. I thought it was a shark at first cause I caught his dorsal out of the corner of my eye. Played cat and mouse with him for a couple minutes before he committed and ate the kingfish intended pogie. Awesome battle fo sho...

BTW, my last post was just to have some fun with Frank. I am not quite enough of a douche to put up that post with any kind of seriousness. Almost, but not quite.
