Thread: Groupies

    Default Groupies

Grouper fishing has been good. Have to go back to Columbus tomorrow, blizzard conditions, not looking forward to it.

Went out three times, caught what we needed each time.

The kings are out there and thick in about 48'-50'. Caught more than we wanted to while drifting the grouper spots.

We used 8th ounce white bucktails, Stretch 30's, and some homemade squidy danglers. Did not like the hook up ratio with the circle hooks though.

Caught the reds in 58'-60' and 48'-50' on the jigs and the Gag's in 26'-30' on the Stretch 30's.

Don't have to run far to catch decent fish. We caught five keeper gag's trolling around the Naples Barge area.

It's turned to hell now, but this week it was great out there.

Not too many fishing reports here, let's get it going folks. I won't be able to fish for several months to come so I need to see some action.

Nice work, Smoker. We hope to start where you left off Wed. the 23rd. Looks like a weather window. The reports have been outstanding. Apparently the yellowtail are thick out of Naples too.

Nice Work John. I fish with the "squidy danglers" as well, rigged just like yours and my hook up rate is about as 100% as you can get. I use the 12 1/2 inch squid skirt with a 6oz egg sinker in the head. I use a bead and a crimp to stop the thing from sliding. The hook is proabably about 8 or 9 inches long. Maybe try a larger squid skirt and have the hook further away from the weight. I have found that the shorter that length is with a circle hook, for whatever reason, the worse the hook up rate becomes. I had one rigged with the hook right behind the weight on a split ring and the hook up rate was zero after about 6 hits. I came to the conclusion that one was useless.

Sux to be going back to the cold weather. One of these years our schedules will sinc up and we can go do some fishing together. Do well in school. I'll get some reports on here when I get back from Okpo, probably just after Christmas.
