Since the weather has been so nice here, I figured I'd better make the best of it. Took a friend on Saturday to search for the overfished, nearly extinct grouper. Tried some trolling and picked up a short at the Rotary reef, made a few more passes to no avail. We headed out to one of my favorite nearshore spots (28 ft.) that usually holds a few good ones. The fish were definitely there and bitin', but all of them under the limit. We had a ton of fun catchin' and throwin' 'em back. I put a few ruby lipped snapper in the box for dinner - realized I had taken nothing out of the freezer for dinner Saturday night. All fish were caught on LY's and squid.
Sunday morning, me and my buddy set out in the fog. It was kinda tricky, but I have a route for the St. Marks river saved in my GPS. We fished the flat in front of Big Pass, and did well on top water. We ended up with 7 trout and a skinny 18" spanish. A big pod of porpoises moved in and had a field day all around us. Needless to say, that was the end of our fishin'. It looked like they were havin' a good time.
Lookin' forward to the next trip !
