Took a vacation day to take advantage of calm seas before the big blow coming tomorrow. Anthony has never caught a Wahoo nor Sailfish yet so the plan was to check them both off his list today. We ran down to the Jupiter Ledge and put out the new Highspeed trolling lures and trolled the ledge south.
With nothing chewing and it still only 6:30am we decided to run down to the Breakers off Palm Beach and troll that ledge as well in hopes of finding his targeted fish...
When we got there there were tons of scattered weeds... What I would have given for some live baits.
After getting the rigs quickly fouled with weeds we decided this wasn't gonna work... We headed back north to LWI to find some baits...
We picked up some runners and other misc baits and continued north to about 1/2 way between LWI and Jupiter Inlet and dumped in a couple of daisy chains and some rigged hoos I whipped up...
We get covered up on the chains with Bonita in short order... After about 6 or so Bonita the flatline goes off and its Anthonys first ever Sailfsh... FISH ON...
After clearing the lines and a quick fight we snapped this pic and did a revive and release...
He swam off great and we continued north along the ledge...
We come up to some weeds and another flatline goes off but comes unglued before we could find out what it was. It was a large splash so were thinking another sail or big fin...
We opted to run back and dump in some liveys. I dumped in my short line about 25ft off the back of the boat and proceeded to tell Anthony how this ones gets all the fin bites as I have hooked the bait in the tail and it splashes at the surface...
I turned around to put some trolling lures away and BAM... Nice 15 pound fin nails the close bait... He came unglued as quickly as he came... There were others with him so tossed out some chunk baits and quickly get hooked up again... Left some fins in the water while we picked through the others and boated 6 fins all together...
After the fins got lockjaw we opted to troll around the area and they quickly hooked up on the hoos... Had one beeline across the surface creating a wake... It was an awesome site...
Headed for the barn around 2:30pm... Ran into VinDawg & Reel Knots at the ramp... They did very well today as well...
