    Default islamorada in january 2011

    a few buddies and i fish the keys every year.we usually go in may for dolphin but due to a buddies wife getting pregnant .we had to chang our trip to january.we usually do very well with the dolphin.i was just curious if anyone had any tips on sailfish,wahoo,or kings out of the islamorada area.any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated thanks again JASON

    Get yerself some pilchards and fish the bridges for tarpon - it's a sure winner - you may not be layin' into 100 lbers but there's plenty o' pull in them 30 lbers, boy - and you can snag the crap outa them off the bridges. It's easy, inexpensive and a heck of a lotta FUN!!!!

    Live ballyhoo are the key for winter sails in the keys. A good live well is a must.

    Anchor on the 20' patch reefs and drop a bag of commercial chum over. Ballys will find you. Use hair hooks and tiny pieces of shrimp.

    Fish for sails from the reef out to 300 feet. Look for frigate birds and showering schools of ballyhoo.
