A wide variety of inshore and offshore species have been on tap in Gulf County, Florida's Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach areas. Inshore, rolling schools of 80 to 200-pound class tarpon are crashing on pogy schools, and tripletail to 20 pounds are hanging on floating logs and pot buoys. Both species can be caught on dead pogy baits drifted back. Offshore wrecks are holding plenty of kingfish in the 10 to 20 pound range, as well as 20 to 40-pound amberjack and even some cobia. If you drop a flutter jig down, you are almost guaranteed to get with by a big Amberjack. Bottom fishing there are black sea bass, some snapper and grouper. Fishing has been solid for the month of August and will remain strong into the end of the summer.
