The offshore fishing down here out of Venice, La. continues to be very good. We have had consistent catches of Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna this past week along with some Amberjack, Wahoo, and Cobia. We have definitely moved into Fall which means big Yellowfin Tuna time. There will probably be about a two week span in October that the bigger tuna will be caught consistently. When I say big I mean the 150+lb. fish with a chance of breaking the 200lb. mark. One over 200lbs. came in last week so they are out there. We just have to hope for good enough weather to be able to hit it just right when they are there. Of course the smaller fish should be abundant as well. Right now you can catch the 80-100lbers. in a wide range of areas but you have have to travel further offshore to get them. The wahoo have started to show up as well. The last cold front that just came thru pushed the temps. down some and this seems to trigger the wahoo bite. During October we will get a push of Wahoo thru here, not as good as Jan. or Feb. but definitely good enough. These are usually the bigger wahoo pushing 60+lbs. Amberjack and Cobia fishing are excellent right now. You should be able to get a limit of A.J.'s just about every trip out. Cobia on the other hand are a little more tricky. When the bite is on you can catch as many as you want, but when they get finicky or just don't bite you may not catch a single one. All about the bite with Cobia but this is the best time of the year for that.. As you will see from the video, as well as a few pics. from this past week. October is definitely one of the best months for Tuna fishing out of Venice, La. so if your looking to get offshore and catch some fish, October is one of the best.
