    Default Can anyone ID this Gulf of Mex. fish?

    Very hard body, shell all around except for tail, flat hard bottom...

    Looks like some sort of filefish....just a guess though.

    Thanks Jack, I wasn't sure what the fish was... Once you put me on the right track it was easy to find it's exact name from google..... "Scrawled Cowfish" (Acanthuostacion quadricornis)... I also found they are suppose to be good eating fish... but to get the flesh it's like breaking into a M1 Tank.... Thanks again.. I love this site....

    Don't know if you found a good way to get to the meat, but my friend who runs a shrimp boat stomps on them with his boot, chills them and cleans 'em.
