Well i did it again....... Headed to tarpon springs for once again. one of the best fishing trips of my life! 10 hrs of weight lifting. Those damn tarpon springs fish are mean!
We headed out of the nastalgic waters of the sponge docks. Bit chilly and choppy. But man the day was beautifull!
Capt. Jessy jr. our confident and accomplished captain headed us west.... lil over 2 hrs later we were dropping anchor..... Excitement was abound... from my lil buddy Thomas, to my older buddy Dean.. we were ready. I was armed with frozen bonita, ladyfish, whole squid, and a single 9 inch moray eel. Hope it was legal for bait.............
Once i find out it was Aok. I will plug my favorite bait shop!.
We get on site and boom i am bit.... horse grunt.. on a huge chunk of bonita.. Love it.. Musta been a 2lb grunt.
Drop down another slab of Bonita.. ... Ohh yes... there he is.. im doubled over.. head shakes and rod pumping.. i gets me a pretty 8 lb gag... Well my money is well spent.... I got my first gag "IN SEASON"! WOOOT>
Keep at it.. and thump i am hung up with something that is not at all happy with his new lip jewelery...... got the first 10 ft...... And were at a stalemate... he shaking madboy... then POP! Stupid leader......
Tie up again.. drop another chunk of bloody bonita down.. Boom.. another big boy... Still again got 10 ft.. stalemate.. everyone watching.. ohh this a biggun.. Pop.
Now i am getting the double you tee eff.........
"Sound it out. Were not allowed to actually post the acronym"
I will never ever buy Berkely vanish flourocarbon leader again. I was using 40lb mamoi mono. 50 and 60lb berkely vanish flouro leader.. it just kept breaking . Once at the knot, once and the hook knot, twice tying the improved clinch knot. I even went as far as to tie 2 leaders for one hook. Still got popped. one about 10 inches from the other. All clean breaks. Man was that frusterating.
Anyway.. Jessy Jr. put me on the fish.. I just had inferior tackle.. Now as for how the boat did.... OMG.. theres a few grouper left in the gulf..... Heres a few pics.
And our pool fish winner was a nice young man by the name of Thomas. He fishes every chance he gets. Even dreams about fishing. Well , lil man got his pay day.
Congratulations Thomas. hope to see you out on the Twogeorgesfishingfleet soon.
I'm telling you guys, you have to try em.
Fast, friendly, full of knowledge. Screw those ignorant grunt wagon tourist boats. Give em a try.. Pictures don't lie!
