Default Working on my 2nd closed wrap

Buddy of mine wanted a rod that could handle cobia, drum, and Aj's. Said he had 10000 Shimano saragosa reel he wanted the rod for. I said sure I can do that told him some options with reel seats and grips, and then I asked about color. He said he wanted it to look like the "Toxic Mullet" from Bomber. My response was quite simple. WTF is a toxic mullet? He sent me a link to Bomber Lures website.

YEP, purple, treuse and blaze freaking orange! I said okay I'll see what I can do.

Started with a RCLB70L blank from batson, put a cross cut front grip, alps seat, and foam rear grip with a rubber gimbal. (Rubber gimbal was requested) Painted the blank purple, purple unders and overs with treuse and bright ass orange trim bands. Butt wrap will be a basic spider in purple with the background alternating between treuse and bright ass orange. I got a little silver flake candy from riley rods that will go into the finish for the final effect.

I have the guides wrapped and started the butt wrap last night, but am far from finished. Here is a pic of the start of the Butt wrap. (cell phone pic) I have made three passes with the inside and only two on the outside. The wrap requires 12 passes to complete.

I will post more photos when done. Probably be a few days as this is pushing my abilities and patience level. stay tuned.

Looks great don't know if I have the patience to tackle something like that. Then again as I do more I might just have to give it a shot.

Closed wraps are actually quite simple. There are only 4 or 5 tricks to doing them. Trick number 1..don't read any books...lol

Sounds like a great how to topic thread. I know I would love to know these 4 or 5 tricks. How about a thread dedicated to these.

It would be a little difficult to do on here, too many pictures and too much writing. A little birdy told me there might be a DVD and a seminar on this soon.
