Hello all.
We are planning a trip for the four guys in our fishing group from Canada for our 50th Birthday which happens in 2012. Normally fish for trout but we all have 8-12wt gear for the salt.
I desperatley need suggestions as to where to go for a trip of a lifetime or at least next year. Excluding airfares, our budget is $2500 - $5000 each for 6-7 days of fishing.
Christmas Island, Belize, Costa Rica, Florida, Cuba, Mexico etc. We are totally open but it has to be fly-fishing.
Looking for resorts, hotels, Guides, experinces you name it.
Any advice you could share with some boys from the frozen North would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
There is nothing better than flyfishing for sailfish in Guatemala. Typically from December through April you should get at least 20 or so shots per day. For info about fishing there or anywhere else in Central America including Costa Rica, Panama and Belize, check out www.tropicalfishing.com

You mentioned Christmas Island, and that would be a great trip. It would certainly fall within your budget, and would be a great winter getaway for you folks from the frozen north. The fishing is done on foot so that you don't spend half of your day sitting in the boat watching your partner fish. The number of bonefish is off the charts and you also will have some shots at GT, which are an awesome fish. I'd suggest talking to Sue Watson at Frontiers Fish and Game. They are an excellent company and can make all of your arrangements for you.
look at Abaco or Andros Islands in the Bahamas. You can get a guide for the full time or DYI part time and a guide part time.
First off, thanks for the replies.
"The fishing is done on foot so that you don't spend half of your day sitting in the boat watching your partner fish."
Exactly the reason I booked Christmas Island today. Did not like the fact of fishing of fishing 1/2 days. We do that in our drift boat.
I think it was Fly Travel or something they book through. Either way, it will beat ICE FISHING !
I think Mexico is better than other places and I think it will be a great trip in Mexico. Because of there have lots of places for fishing. Like Pacific Coast, Riviera maya and Puerto Aventuras. Those places are suitable with your budget too.

I am not a sponsor of this site, I understand I can't post a link to my business in my signature, thanks for pointing that out Admin!
Screamin Reel,
Come to Panama! March, April, or early May and try your fly rods on some schooling Yellowfin Tunas here in the Gulf of Chiriqui! It'll be the heigth of the dry season with flat seas and lots of fish. Hannibal Bank, Isla Monutosa, and Isla Ladrones are our hot spots. Our 33' World Cat Catamaran has the perfect platform for fly casting....
Also inshore Roosterfish, and big Cubera Snappers would put your fly rods to the test! Check out our website with picks of the luxurious tropical island lodge located in the middle of the Gulf of Chiriqui.
