This time it was a case of Jacks over Ladies. Tried one of my old spots, nothing happening at my best hole. Motored to the back of a small bay and set up to drift across the mud. Water in this area was dirty so it was fan casting to areas that I know have some pockets. While doing this I was watching an area of nervous water. Hooked and landed a Sand Dab. With this activity the water calmed, fish gone. Spotted a shadow moving my way, a Red in the 10 plus pound range. Three casts and nothing, just moved tighter to the Mangroves and kept moving. Moved back to another area to check for Snook, 1 slot Trout, 2 shorts and a pair of small Mangrove Snapper not so much as a hint of Snook. Started to hit small Ladyfish, time to move to another area. Last week this area was almost impossible to work, Ladyfish and Jacks hit anything that was moving. This week was not as bad, bigger Jacks to 2 pounds were thick, but the area was workable as they were in tight schools. Got to the back of the canal and landed a nice 20 inch Trout, at first I was thinking Snook as she made 2 jumps. Hit three more short Trout. After at least 20 Jacks and a shorter quantity of Ladies, packed it up and made the long slow haul to Red country. Too dirty for sight fishing so its on to working the pockets. Managed to land three Rats. Once again I may have to sell my soul. Last week and this week Sheephead were heave in the area. They don't get very excited about a small Gulp.
Need to get the commercials out to thin out the U-2 population.
