What is wrong with THIS site?

To be honest, alot of the forums I visit are way down. There are very few that have a dedicated following that keep posts going. I also have to agree, the popup add is really really pissing me off!!!

Way down is totally different than a ghost town like we have here.

One thing wrong with the site is that we had a bit of a meltdown last night with mass-moving of a number of threads, which required a system restore. Long story short, we lost all activity from 2:00 a.m. March 14 on. We are very sorry about this, and don't expect it to happen again.

Otherwise, I would encourage everyone to continue to let us know what we can do to improve the community.

So what the heck happened? I logged on this morning to check the news in BOX'S world only to find it gone. Hollybrooke is right about the mass exodus from another site to here. Although I was a member here long before that I was glad to check in here one day and find many others that I knew. Participation is down in many sites as well as this one. There has always been a disporportionate amount of lurkers to posters but that is the nature of the beast. I see more and more people I know through fishing sites posting more on Facebook now than on fishing sites. I think that has taken away a lot of the posters from this site as well as the other site many of us came from after Marty moved here.

OTF, are you talking about a hardware meltdown or a personnel meltdown? I've never heard of any site where that number of threads got moved by accident, but left just a few where they were. It just seems weird.

BONNIER BROUGHT ALL THIS NEGATIVITY ON WITH ME DISPLAYING A LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH ME, NO RESPECT, AND WRONGFULLY MAKING A STATEMENT IN SPORTFISHING MAG LAST MONTH ABOUT ME AND NEVER EVEN ATTEMPTING TO OFFER ME A PRIVATE APOLOGY.......

Couple of points if I may. I'm 100% positive that nobody deleted the posts as OTF posted before. Kevin asked me to call him today, and I saw that the thread was still here, and I didn't check for the posts. Since your post and Kevin's post (among others) were gone, I didn't have his phone number. I really wanted to call him.

I really don't know what's wrong here. You and the rest of the gang have really brought a great deal to this forum. The only thing that I can think of is that you folks mainly fish "up North" and most of the members that are here and have been here are South. Maybe that's why the participation is down.

Now, I don't know why you asked for your forum to be removed, but my understanding is that it isn't really gone, it's just hidden and you can bring it back anytime. I wish you would reconsider, but I understand if you don't. I'd like to keep this thread going if possible, be we need more people to post what they expect to happen. It can't just be me and you and Kevin and the others that have posted here. Needs to be more.

As I said before, everyone has free reign here on this thread. I will NOT delete any post. Depending on the language, I may edit it, but I swear that I won't delete anything that someone decides post here.

...is what ultimately caused a few very influential, informative, and entertaining members to rethink the benefit of contributing here versus elsewhere. The rest followed. That is after all, how this forum enjoyed what was the highest level of participation in it's history, no? A few came, the rest was history.


Back in this forum's prime, the members self policed. It was nice to have a mod available to answer reports and perform the occasional "Clean-up on aisle 14", though. Somewhere along the line the essence of what fostered the open exchange of thought, method, and application became hazed, if not lost.

Despite having been shown a level of customer appreciation and generosity that truly went above and beyond the call, I miss this place.
