Think im still rocking. Well lets start this post off with "Yea it was rough"
Bout 11 am Friday September 7th a few friends and i got together.
We headed off to The Two Georges boat In Tarpon springs,fl.
Got to the boat got the gear stowed scrambled around trying to figure out what was what. Bunks claimed, off we went to Anclote pier to make bait. Well that turned out well plenty of palm sized spotfins, and pinfish. But our dumbasses did not take into concideration Floridas heat...... we had a few livewells ready and before we got started one did not make it through the trip to the pier. So Luckily Jay had one. So we used it, but we had no rope for water changes. baaaa Killed more before we fished then we used.
So after the ordeal of having such a problem keeping bait alive we called it. headed back to the boat. Still have 4 hrs to kill before they get underway.
As were hanging out chatting up with the captains and mates, aswell as other fishermen. One of the mates realize we are scrambling around trying to keep bait alive and Mikey the mate says Hey you need a live well?. So we said hell yea what ya got..
So we went from this
To this
Well shoot, were on our way now.
So anyway we get bait moved whats left of it, And the Bait man comes by so we get 6 dozen pins, pigs from him and were set. Lets get this party started.
About 8pm ish hear them Motors crank.. whooo haa were ready.
Hole lotta rods for just 22 people... Turned out some needed em..
Quite a few stripped reels and broken rods. But that means fun right.
Mate Darren making Porgy, and beeliner bait.
I looked at this like..... hmm we going grunt fishing?.. Heck no Even them bigger fish in the deep water love that squid. Caught several big porgys and beeliners on that .
Finally were underway.....
Let the party begin.. everyone is buzzing with excitement.
Finally we hear that sweet sound of those deisels break the RPM cycle that was lulling us to sleep. Woo hoo.. Time to go to work!
First catch a beautifull deepsea flower...
Well at first drop mangos were just slam feeding..Then a big porgy then a champagne porgy Beeliners.. man it was non stop from 230 am till day light.
then the Amberjacks woke up.
I gave em a go After 4 bust offs and one spit.. i said to hell with feeding them my tackle..
The Captain then made an announcement the A.J's are more towards the bow come up if ya want one.. The anchor kept slipping so we power drifted a bit to stay on em..
if you wanted to Tangle with an A.J all you had to do was drop a bait and wait 5 seconds.
Got a bit sporty out by about 9am 6 to 8 with some nice swells.
One fish box
2 fish box
Pile on the donkey(S)
By the time we called it i don't think there were more then about 10 people who weren't feeling the sea's...... 12's and 14's slammed us all damn day...
We made it home with only one rogue wave putting the boat on its port side , crashing over the boat . Cavatating the starboard engine... very scary..... But Alas we were in Safe experienced hands.. I loved every moment.
Heres some dockside pics.. i was too exhausted to get more pics and interviews. I just wanted to go home..lol.. thats a first for me.. I must be getting old.. or i just need to do this more often.. i'll take the latter.
My tally was 7 mangos 2 over 5 lbs, 17 porgy's, 8 beeliners and a few broken hearts. Need bigger tackle.. 40 lb only goes so far.. But loved it .
