    Default Montauk Sportfishing Report 10/15/12

    10/15/12

    This isn’t the way the fall striped bass run is supposed to be. The number of boats fishing on Saturday was about half what were out the previous weekend, but there were still enough to make the fishing difficult. Some of the charterboats were only able to bring back a couple of bass for their half day trips. I took a ride around the Lighthouse on Sunday and there were only a handful of boats out, and for the most part they did better than Saturday. But I have yet to see those clouds of birds over schools of feeding fish that is part of the normal scene. I have a feeling that November is going to have some dynamite fishing this year.
    The blitzes that were taking place on the beach seem to be over as well for now. At least Turtle Cove only had a half dozen casters standing around when I stopped by there.
    It’s getting to the time of years when you have to expect to be fishing in some crappy conditions. The forecast for this week in Block Island Sound is as follows;
    Sun night
    SW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft.
