Paddled to the Bob Hall Standpipe solo yesterday, i brought ribbonfish and sardines for bait..no bites on the troll out..i tied to the rig and found the bottom fish hungry..
i caught tons of pompano(caught over 10 pomps all on a mann-o-lure), snapper (i caught one nice one but he jumped over board before i could get em on film), triggerfish, spadefish, bluefish, small amberjack, and a spanish mackerel..
i saw a really nice ling twice come out of the rig both times i trolled ribbonfish past its nose without a bite..
i ended up hooking the ling when i hooked a snapper on a mann-o-lure..i could feel the panicked head shakes of a small fish then a second or two later i had drag ripping off the reel..i fought it from the rig and got over a 20 minute fight out of it..i was trying to bring it up for the camera and the split ring on the mann-o-lure broke..i think the cobia was almost 45 inches if it was the same one i saw earlier in the day..i had to be back home anyway and didn't have time to fight the ling any longer, i was planning on releasing it too so loosing it wasn't the end of the world for me..
i saw no signs of kingfish, they either went to deeper water or decided Texas is too cold..i got to touch a turtle when i was out there too, that was kind of neat..
