Took a vacation day today to get out an wet a line before heading to the west coast to have an early Turkey Day Celebration with my side of the family tomorrow.

Taking Chuck out today in hopes of a repeat of a few weeks ago. When I told him the conditions we would be facing he still wanted to go. Opted to leave at day break to make a safe exit through the SLI at slack tide.

I was only able to net 2 mullets and a snook this morning. No baits to be had at the pocket, I safely released the snook and continued searching for some more mullet with no luck…

I didn’t bring the Sabiki rods this morning as it was going to be a ballyhoo trolling day . When you face 4-6ft seas you can’t go anywhere fast so we dropped in a couple of lures just past the channel marker and headed NE from the SLI.

Were in 30ft of water and at 6:30am the port line gets nailed. Chuck reels in a bluefish that hit this lure… Go figure.



1 fish in the box and we continued NE… Here was the sunrise…



We made it out to 120ft and got into a mess of Bonita. We burned through a package of Ballyhoo in about an hour… We were hoping some fins would move in the area but no luck.



Great day for sailing for sure with 15 knot winds…



We decided to run out deeper and when we hit 145ft we hit a wall of 6ft plus seas… The west wall of the Gulfstream was in close today.



We have been in 4-6ft seas all morning but there were a bit too close together for comfort so we turned around and headed to shallower waters.



We found a nice color change in 60ft. One side was dirty water with about 3-4ft visibility and the other was muddy zero vis water. We trolled north for about 45 minutes with no knock downs.

It was closing in on high tide at 11:00am and we needed to get through the inlet before the outgoing tide to play it safe. We pointed the bow towards the SLI and dropped in the hoos and trolled through the muddy zero vis water all the way to the inlet with (not surprising) zero knock downs.

We arrive to a flooded dock again and had to exit out of the west ramps. Did see some people pulling their boats out here but had all four truck tires in the water.





Notice the new back guards added to the cleaning tables. They also countersunk the screws on the top of the table so you won’t hit them with your knives. You might have to down a pair of waders or swim trunks to get to the tables though :grin





No issues with the west ramps except you had to wade through ankle deep water.
