Finally fair sea's to match my clients schedules! With 5 guest onboard, and only one that spoke English well enough to communicate with, well it was a long day, but we caught fish and had fun. Kings were the first target, and we used lipped diving plugs and ballyhoo rather than spend time looking for live bait....it worked. We headed east to 8a to start the trip since we planned working east once we had enough Kings on ice.


There were 30 or so other boats on the grounds with half being commercial. Sea's were fair and winds mild, so everyone kept their breakfast and enjoyed fighting fish. Have to keep a close eye on the other boats, especially the commercial boats, as there are a few that seem disposed to ignore all rules of navigation and common sense. even so we caught our fish and headed east.


We did a little bottom fishing while drifting over a few sites just to test the bite out before trolling a little for Phins and Wahoo. We trolled an hour or so towards the east with only False Albicore to show for, so it was to the bottom we went. We anchored up so all could drop lines at the same time. As usual, fish that we cannot keep were abundant, Red Snapper, Vermillion Snapper and Black Sea Bass. A few nice surprises were caught however, and these went in the Icebox....Yellowtail Snapper. Triggerfish also were caught.


The biggest surprise of the day was while we were bottom fishing. We had a school of baitfish mark under the boat, and then 20' from the boat a 20 to 25 pound Yellowfin Tuna crashed the surface. It was a scramble to get some live bait out and casting jigs. We pulled anchor and dragged lines around the area, but no sucess. Seeing it was nice, but having a larger Brother or Sister of this fish on ice would have been much better!


Back to port we headed with around 150 pounds of fish on ice. Nice day, nice weather and nice catching action. With another trip scheduled tomorrow, I was hopeing for more of the same.
