Default Non Slip Loop Knot Video is wrong

I just watched the video on the main page on how to tie the non slip loop knot and I believe the video is showing how to tie the knot incorrectly.

The video shows the overhand knot with the tag end then going through the eye of the hook and then back through the the overhand knot. The tag end of the line is then wrapped with three turns around the leader and then passed through the center of the overhand knot again. That is wrong, the tag end should pass through on the outside edge of the overhand knot. If the knot is tied the way the video shows it is going to result in a lost big fish because the knot will cinch down on itself and cut through the leader the same way a simple wind knot would in a leader with a big fish.

I'm going to have to disagree with you completely on this one.

I know about three or four ways to tie the loop knot, and this one is totally legit. It's the main loop knot I use when trying to get that extra wiggle in my presentation. Not once have I had an issue with the knot cutting through itself. I fish for inshore species, including big tarpon and redfish.

(I have had an issue with the knot coming undo from using too heavy of a leader and not enough wraps.)

What specifically stands out to me in this knot is that the tag end aims back toward the fly. This allows weeds and gunk in the water to brush off the fly and line, instead of catching and messing up my presentation.

I understand what your saying and this may work in most cases but I think I will go along with what Lefty Kreh says is the correct way to tie the knot.

I unfortunately have had this knot fail on me when tied the way the video shows.

I am not the least bit concerned about the tag end of the loop knot collecting a little weed and the fact that if the tag points back towards the fly being the determining factor as to whether or not the knot is tied correctly. I always figured that the hook would collect the weed and more of it long before a tag end on the leader.
