!6 Feb, the first FLFA Tournament of 2013 was underway. A little on the cold and windy side, but for tournaments there is seldom a perfect day. First stop, 1 Spanish Mackerel, don't see very many of them in this area. Next stop, time to play in the mud. Plenty of bait, but can not see any Reds. Worked the Gold Flat Rap off of the pockets in the Mangroves. Got a small 4 pound Red. Spotted an area of nervous bait, made a cast with a top water popper, good blow up but no hook up, just know that it was the winning Red. Spent the next 10 minutes poling back out to where I could get enough water to run. Back to a canal to find Trout. Hit one 16 incher, then it was nothing but Jacks. Moved back to an area that produced a lot of nice Trout last year, but has been dead this year. Worked the Flat Rap on the Mangrove edge, missed a couple of hits, then got a good hookup, a slim 5 pound Trout.
Off to the weigh in. Watch and wait as several bigger fish were brought in. Wound up out of the money again. There are a lot of really good anglers fishing the Circuit. Next tournament is on 16 March. Come out and fish. If you don,t fish the tournament stop by the Riverside Cafe in Vero or Sebastian Inlet Marina in Grant and watch the weigh in.
