Last week the area selected was Grant. Still sad to say that the grass is scarce. Made the run to Hog Point. Outside where the grass was plentiful at one time and Trout, Reds and Snook roamed. A barren desert, not a sign of grass. Worked around the point and back into the cove area. glad to report that there was plenty of grass, the matted muck grass that Reds love. The Reds were right at 20 inches. Moved to Snag to find Trout and Reds. Hit several short Trout and no Reds. Not much of a recovery in this area.
This week it was back South. Fished the cuts off of the ICW South of the Wabasso Causeway. Been at least two years since I have worked this area. First cut, plenty of grass, missed a nice Red. Second cut eased towards the back. Spotted a Blue Flag back up under the Mangroves, a quick skip cast to the direction it was heading resulted in an instant hookup. Not the fish I was watching, but a nice 21 inch Red. This was one of the classics. Braided line saved the day as most of the fight was back in under the Mangroves. Moved to the next cut, this has really been productive in the past. Hit 2 small Snooklets. At the back, decided to test out my new Rapala X-RAP PROP. Long cast to the back of the cove, a twitch and a good hookup. Turned out to be a 24 inch Trout.
Moved further South to Oyster Cut. Picked up a pair of 18 inch Reds. A little disturbing, the Cuda are getting bigger, one measured just over 18 inches.
