Winter is over and things should be starting to happen in the boatyards, but the weather still sucks. Too cold with wind that makes it feel worse.
January and February had pretty good codfishing, with seabass mixed in and ling joining in as they dropped off. It wasn't what it was a couple of years back, but overall it was very acceptable. It slowed a bit in March, and then the winds took over, keeping boats at the dock. The last week of the month the winds dropped and there were a couple of days with OK fishing, but then a couple of tough days. And now the winds are back.
As usual, we are still waiting to hear what the fluke and seabass regs are going to be. Hopefully we'll get them soon, but probably not until a couple of days before the fluke season opens. Last season it opened May 1. If the weather doessn't improve, the actual starting date might not matter much.
Salivar's Dock is a mess and has been all winter. The new owners are rebuilding it, but it's taking a long time. Nothing is going on with the restaurant.
Marshal's regular, do it yourself, is $4.46. Marine Basin's diesel is $460.
I'll post occasionally when something comes up, and when actual fishing starts I'll be back every Monday morning.
