Planned to launch at an unimproved ramp in Winter Beach. Could not get to the water as Mosquito Control had the lot filled. Back to an improved ramp and off to fish unfamiliar territory, Pelican Island Refuge. Worked across the flats, nothing, almost a desert. At the backside, worked Spratt Creek. Have fished the area with a partner a few times with poor results. Partner insisted on fishing the West shore. Always skipping DOA Shrimp back into the Mangroves. Always looking for big Snook. Started to work the East side with a jerk bait. Liked the conditions, dirty water. I work at a 5 to 10 degree angle to the Mangroves. Works for Reds. First set of casts, light tap, hook set and a power run. Thinking big Red. Then came the turn straight into the mangroves. Held on for a while, until she rolled up in sight, a Snook in the 20 pound range. Time to quit playing, put the pressure on and got her right to the edge, pulled the hook. Pretty impressed withe the Suffix Camo Braid, held up good. Moved on down the edge, caught a 19 inch Red and a 19 inch Flounder. Switched over to the Flat Rap, lost a nice Trout and boated a 21 inch Red. Started to get nervous as the storms were starting to move in. Back to the jerk bait and the last fish of the day, a 19 inch Cuda. Had to run.
