The heat is vicious, but it beats the cold by a long shot. This week the temperatures stayed in the low 90's, but with the breeze it was enjoyable. First stop of the day produced three Rat Reds. All 12 inches, could have been the same fish. Worked the spoil islands looking for Trout. Found them in the 16 inch range. Managed to get one that made the 20 inch mark. The Trout are frisky and fat. Hitting top waters mid day. The grass is starting to make a come back around the islands. This is the real blade type of grass, not the muck that I like. Also the water has cleared up in some of the spots, not even a sign of the normal Brown Algae. Back in the canal there was a new ride n the water. my boat is a 12 foot Cat hull. Today a Manatee decide that the tunnel was a good place to camp. Really got a good tour of the area. Could not get off of it with the electric, and thumping the bottom of the boat did no good. finally got to a section that is really shallow ind pushed into it and managed to slide off. The area is still a mess, small Tarpon, not even fun size , and a big Gar were the only fish present. Working a mangrove Shore line, something big was crashing bait . Made a skip cast and got lucky, no hook up. Turned out to be a small Shark. Worked the bridge on the way out, missed a small Snook. Next cast hooked a fair sized Trout. The one with her was bigger.
