Default Fishing for Whiting

I live in Northeast Florida in Ponte Vedra beach and was just wondering if anyone had any good advice on what kind of tackle is preferred for catching Whiting? The mullet and pogie are still running strong up and down the beach with lots of big fish making them break the surface but it seems recently i have not been catching as many Whiting. In fact a lot of the time i will pull in small lady fish which are fun to catch but are not what i am going after. Is there a certain leader set up that i dont know about? i have been using fresh shrimp not live but not ones that have been frozen for months on end. Is this the right steps to catching some great Whiting?

Fresh shrimp pinched off in small bits is acceptable although fresh frozen is probably close to as good. I use a 1/2 to 1 oz flat sinker depending on the tide and about a 14" leader. This is the best month for whiting/pompano in nassau sound but wait til the tides are under 7'.
