I am 26 looking at purchasing my first boat. I am currently looking at the 175 Sportfish by Scout. Is this a good boat? Good Manufacturer? Problems? Recommendations to go with the boat? Thanks!

What size boat are you after? And where wil you be going with it?

I've been on a couple Scouts at the Norwalk boat show here in Ct...

They seem to be a nice boat for the money, but a lot lighter than what the Whalers and other "Big-name" guys build.

I'm looking into a small center console myself. I was looking at the Cape Craft 18CC. It looks sturdy, nice flare to the bow....ought be a dry ride. I'm gonna go for a "test drive" later this week....we'll see if it fits the bill...

i had a 175 scout and it is a great boat i now have a 185 dorado scout. i have had scouts, keywest,mckee and a leader cat. i think the scout is the best boat for the money. nice finish ans hardware, with a fairly smooth and dry ride.

I have a 185 sportfish and I love it. I had whalers prior to this, and for the money its the best thing going. JD Power places scout as the 3rd best boat on the market. whaler 2nd and grady white 1st. I belived the hardware is good, all the storage areas are finished and the storage area lids are fiberglass. the air assist hull is great and really give you a dry smooth ride.

Get your money in hand and go buy it. I have had a 175 for three years, trailored it 7500 miles, and have about 1500 miles on the hull, fishing inshore saltwater and large lakes in the southeast. It's a great package designed for the fisherman. Go with the 90 hp engine.

Please do not get hung up with boat weights. What is considered to be the finest running 21 foot boat is the Contender 21, this boat is 2300 pounds. The key to a great riding boat is hull design. If you like the Scout do not rule it out due to weight.

I'm going on my 3rd season with the 235 sportfish and have never had such a great boat. The hardware and finish is superb and it's a real looker. packaged with a yamaha you can't go wrong, you will only pay more for a gw or bw & i call them "old mans boats" they havent really changed their styling in years, especialy grady white.

I am looking at dual consoles for fishing/skiing in the LI sound in NY and am leaning to the Aquasport 215 over the Doroado 22'. I plan on both long and short trips with my boys and friends in th esound and want a boat with a smooth ride in various conditions. I have only tested the aquasport so far, but am concerned about the JD Power overall ratings of 2/5 vs. Scouts 3/5. Is anybody familiar with these two dual consoles?

After doing quite a bit of research, I settled on the Scout 175 and have been nothing short of very pleased all around. I trailer this boat to the gulf and use it on large reservoirs and rivers in my area. I would recomend the 90 Yamaha - (I went with the two stroke - ran one for fifteen years and never had a day of trouble with it - with normal maintence of course). I have a top speed of about 38mph, and a cruising speed of 30mph using 5.5 gph of fuel, under normal conditions. In the gulf I have ran in two to four ft. seas, maintaining a comfortable ride at 18 mph. I would also recomend going with a leaning post rather than the pedestal seats - I built one that fits the pedestal bases that I use in the gulf and for more serious fishing - then put the more comfortable pedestal seats in for lazy days of sitting at anchor on the river drowning bait behind the boat.
A few friends who live minutes from the gulf have complimented this boat for its soft ride, and have received several compliments on its looks. I would go with either a factory accessory fuel flow monitor or a good aftermarket one.
